Timken Receives $16 Million Order From Indian Railways
AP™ bearing assembly reduces maintenance costs, improves fuel efficiency

CANTON, Ohio — Dec. 2, 2008 — The Timken Company (NYSE: TKR) announced today that it has received a $16 million order to supply Timken® AP™ Class E bearings for use on Indian Railways passenger and freight trains.  Timken has supplied India's rail system for 20 years.

The self-contained, pre-assembled and pre-lubricated Timken AP bearing design reduces maintenance costs, delivers more miles per bearing and improves fuel efficiency.

One of the largest and busiest rail networks in the world, Indian Railways transports 18 million passengers and 2 million metric tons of freight each day.  The state-owned Indian Railways operates both long-distance and suburban rail systems.
