Timken Provides Rail Polska with TracGlide® Friction Management System
Timken system improves efficiency, increases productivity

CANTON, Ohio — Oct. 8, 2008 — The Timken Company (NYSE: TKR) announced today that Rail Polska will implement the Timken® TracGlide® top-of-rail friction management system on its M62 six-axle locomotive to integrate energy-efficient technology into its railroad operations.

The TracGlide system is housed onboard a locomotive and works by automatically dispensing a thin liquid, or friction modifier, to the top of the rail as it moves across the tracks.  The amount of modifier is released and precisely controlled based on the current track conditions and environmental factors.  The TracGlide system reduces rail wear, increases overall productivity and provides energy savings along with reduced emissions.  The dispensed liquid is environmentally friendly and dissipates after all the rail cars have passed.

“The application of this new system with Rail Polska is just one example of how Timken is working to deliver new innovations in friction management that help our rail customers achieve more efficient and productive operations,” said Hans Landin, director of rail at The Timken Company.

Based in Warsaw, Poland, Rail Polska will utilize the system on its M62 six-axle locomotive, which is used for long-haul transportation throughout the country.  Rail Polska is currently seeking certification for this technology and expects installation to begin in November 2008.
