Timken Launches Online Tool for Use in Interchanging Housed Units

CANTON, Ohio, Oct 18, 2007 (BUSINESS WIRE) -- The Timken Company (NYSE:TKR) today announced the availability of an online tool that will enable original equipment manufacturers, distributors, students and end users to easily locate a Timken housed unit that correctly interchanges with a competitor's part.

The Timken® Fafnir® Housed-Unit Interchange employs an easy-to-follow, three-step process for looking up interchange information using a competitor's part number. If the part number is unknown, customers can opt for the advanced interchange process that uses pictures of housings, bearings and seals to help identify which type of housed unit they have. The interchange tool then will provide the Timken part that most closely matches the unit based on critical dimensions and product style.

"Customers who use any Timken product often recognize the company's emphasis on quality and may want to turn to Timken for all their applications. This tool enables them to do that with ease," said Craig Etheridge, Timken product manager - housed units. "This interchange showcases where Timken friction management solutions fit into customer applications, and it really puts the power in customers' hands to explore and easily compare their options."

The housed-unit interchange highlights dimensional differences between part numbers and notes whether it is critical to the application. Advanced housed-unit drawings also are used to help customers visualize the product and its characteristics when an interchange is suggested.

When customers have located a Timken replacement, a "Timken Advantages" section lists the distinct benefits of Timken's line of housed units.

For additional information, customers may contact a local Timken sales representative.
