Bearing Inspection, Inc. Earns ISO 9001:2015 Certification
Timken bearing repair business makes bearings last longer, helps keep costs grounded

NORTH CANTON, Ohio, July 10, 2018 — The Timken Company (NYSE: TKR; www.timken.com) today announced Bearing Inspection, Inc. (Bii), the company’s aerospace bearing repair facility in Los Alamitos, California, has earned ISO 9001:2015 Certification for Quality Management Systems, updating from ISO 9001:2008.

For more than 60 years, Bii has pioneered the processes and quality standards that make bearing inspection and repair a high-value proposition for the aircraft engine aftermarket. The company is part of the Timken brand portfolio and operates as a strategic supply chain partner to air carriers, overhaul facilities and military organizations around the world by restoring components to like-new specifications, while controlling costs.

“We’re committed to extending bearing lifetimes with money-saving repairs, which is further demonstrated by Bii earning the latest ISO certification, and by our desire to consistently perform at the highest levels of quality,” said Maureen Curtiss, general manager, Bearing Inspection, Inc.

Bii supports the aviation industry by serving as a single source for the inspection and reconditioning of high-value ball and roller bearings. Since 1955, the company has earned a reputation for excellence by making bearings last longer and by helping customers move faster thanks to:

  • Proven Quality Performance: Bii’s reconditioning process returns bearings to like-new operational condition without sacrificing quality, safety or service life. Every bearing is processed individually and is inspected multiple times, assuring each is thoroughly clean, free of cracks and ready for service.
  • World-Leading Turnaround Times: Bii works closely with customers to establish turnaround times (TAT) that help them meet their build schedules. With the proper paperwork and parts preparation, most all bearing overhauls can be completed in 15 business days or better. For customers, this also contributes to lower inventory carrying costs.
  • Breadth and Depth of Services: Bii inspects and repairs more than 30,000 main engine, gearbox and Auxiliary Power Unit (APU) bearings annually on more than 80 different platforms. The company can recondition 6,000+ part numbers and can rapidly develop repairs for additional part numbers.
  • Global Certification: Bii services are approved by the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA), European Aviation Safety Agency (EASA), Civil Aviation Administration of China (CAAC) and Thailand Department of Civil Aviation (DCA).
  • Top-Notch Talent: The best quality assurance is a team of highly skilled technicians and customer service representatives, and that’s why all Bii associates undergo a lengthy training program. Bii has the some of the most experienced personnel in the industry, with the average inspector tenure being more than 12 years.

Based on bearing endurance data collected by NASA, approximately 92 percent of bearing sets that are available for refurbishing meet or exceed the predicted life of a new bearing. For maintenance managers and decision makers tasked with keeping fleets in the air, this is compelling, particularly considering that 80 percent of the bearings Bii receives are candidates for repair or overhaul.

In aircraft and helicopter engines, inspection and reconditioning services can extend the life of bearings significantly and save companies tens of thousands of dollars or more a year. Visit BearingInspectionInc.com to learn more about Bii as a recognized leader in aerospace bearing services.
