Lightweight Timken® RacePac® Front and Rear Wheel End Assemblies Run Cooler and Faster

NORTH CANTON, Ohio: June 29, 2017 —The Timken Company (NYSE: TKR; www.timken.com), a global leader in bearings and mechanical power transmission products, announced the launch of its new Lightweight Timken® RacePac® Front and Rear Wheel End Assemblies. Each Timken re-engineered RacePac wheel end assembly weighs approximately two pounds lighter than existing RacePac hubs, which will enhance speed and strengthen performance on all types of tracks, while increasing race teams’ efficiency in the shop.

Timken RacePac wheel hubs, integrated hub and bearing assemblies precisely designed for National Association for Stock Car Auto Racing, Inc. (NASCAR®) teams, demonstrate an ongoing commitment to high-performance products for motorsports.

Timken development engineers conducted multiple tests under typical intermediate 1.5 mile track loads and speeds to optimize grease fill, lubricant retention bearing setting and enhanced bearing internal geometry. The result was a redesigned lightweight rear RacePac wheel hub with more durability, cooler operating temperatures and significantly less unsprung weight on the rear axle. These cooler operating lightweight rear RacePac wheel hubs not only increase durability, but also require less airflow which can enable additional aerodynamic adjustments.

Timken completed 12-hour benchmarking rig tests showing the updates made to the new lightweight rear RacePac wheel hubs resulted in an enhanced product with overall stronger performance when compared to the existing rear RacePac wheel hubs.

“History shows that successful testing is an indicator of stronger performance regardless of car setup or track,” said Ian Collins, Timken senior sales engineer. “Our testing shows that the new Timken RacePac rear wheel hubs run lighter, cooler, longer and faster.”

The new Timken lightweight front and rear RacePac wheel end assemblies are manufactured solely for the Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series™, NASCAR XFINITY Series™ and NASCAR Camping World Truck Series™.
