Large electric motor and generator repair, storage and industrial gearbox repair available to customers in the Rocky Mountain Region

DENVER, Colo: May 16, 2016 — Timken Power Systems has opened a 92,000 square-foot state-of-the-art motor and gearbox repair facility in Denver, Colo. The site’s expanded capabilities will be on display at an open house from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Thursday, May 19, at 4850 Moline St., Denver. From the new location, Timken Power Systems, which drives The Timken Company’s industrial services portfolio, can now offer broader powertrain solutions to both new and existing customers.    (NYSE: TKR; www.timken.com)

      The $4.6 million investment made it possible to consolidate two smaller existing sites in Denver and bring electric motor and generator repair and storage under one roof. In addition, the site now includes industrial gearbox repair and test capabilities.

Timken Power Systems is building on the regional strength of Wazee Electric, a fixture in the Denver region for over 95 years, which Timken acquired as part of its services portfolio in 2012. The new Denver service center houses some of the most comprehensive repair capabilities in the region, serving customers in the power generation, cement, water management, mining and process industries among others.

"The opening of our new Denver location extends our regional service center network capabilities in a key market,” said Carl Rapp, vice president of the Timken Power Systems group. “We are leveraging the strong reputation that Wazee Electric originally established with many local customers and the know-how that comes from the Denver team and our Philadelphia Gear® repair capabilities.  In bringing those skills together under one roof, we can now supply and service mission-critical motors, generators, controls and gearboxes from a larger, more efficient location. We also have a successful consignment storage business where we maintain our customers’ critical spares, with a promise to quickly install new equipment in the event of a major failure. With this expansion, we increase our ability to help our customers avoid unplanned downtime.”

The new site’s highly efficient layout optimizes space and features large-capacity cranes, lathes, ovens and VPI tanks for the motor and generator business. An additional test stand, machining capabilities, inspection tables and a new back-draft paint booth can also be used for the gear repair business.

With this equipment, Timken Power Systems is capable of repairing electric motors up to 7,000 horsepower and gearboxes up to 3600 RPM. The facility has 9,500 square feet dedicated to storage and care of customers’ critical spare equipment includingmotors, generators, gearboxes and switchgears.

     “It’s very exciting to see this investment that will benefit our customers through our improved processes, expanded footprint and larger capacity equipment,” said Karen Imrie, general manager of the Denver service center. “With our experienced technical staff and the right equipment all now under one roof, we can more easily manage the repair from start to finish in one location.” The new facility features:

  • Seven new cranes with a 30-ton crane lift capacity and 20-foot clearance under hook;
  • Large-capacity vacuum pressurized impregnation (VPI) system with a 10-foot diameter, capable of processing large stators;
